How to investigate your email message
You may need to view the detail of your email message to investigate its legitimacy and find out where exactly it is coming from.
- Open Outlook Express
- Right click on the message subject and left click on "Properties"
- Click on "detail" tab
- Start from top and look for the first line that says:
"Received: from" then follow it to the first 4-segment IP numbers inside square brackets ([XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX]) for example:
From fakespammer@fakedomain.com Sun Feb 20 12:56:29 2005
Received: from Fake Name ([210.170.216.218])
(Remember, look for the first "Received: from" from the top.)
The above "210.170.216.218" number is where the email message is coming from.
You can login to the below site: http://www.arin.net and type in the above
IP number in the SEARCH WHOIS section and search. You should get some idea
about where the email message is coming from.
You can also use our email admin black/white list to block unwanted email.
